For this particular experiment, we will be focusing on the growth and development of Flemish Giants. To see this entire process from beginning to end, please follow the posts with this (above) title, which will be numbered.
WEEK 6: Changing feed hasn't ended up making much of a difference. In essence, all we have done is switch rabbits - the ones who were devouring the PenPal now arent eating as well on the Rowe, and the ones who would barely touch the PenPal, are now devouring the Rowe. In recompense, as of 2 days ago, we have re-added unlimited amounts of hay and are re-introducing limited amounts veggie/fruit treats. Further supplements will be re-added as well (BOSS, Oats, etc), this week.
At this stage, a lot of our Flemish are in the "ugly stages" of 5-9mo's of age. This is not helping when comparing which ones are looking better and which ones appear to be lacking 'something', because during their "teenage time", they tend to look "gangley" with oddly huge heads (that dont match the balance with their bodies *yet*). However, once you can look past that and just concentrate on flesh and muscle condition and over-all growth.
At this point in the game, the conclusion I am drawing closer to believing is that it does not matter what BRAND NAME of feed is used, so long as it is good, quality, fresh pellets. The more contributing factor tends to be leaning more towards exercise, and supplements that are not added into ANY of the pellet-feeds, combined with CLEAN housing, unlimited fresh/bacteria free water, a minimum of 6-10hours of in-direct natural sunlight, and as much fresh air as possible.
.... We shall see if this conclusion carries forward, or if it is short-lived. Stay tuned for next weeks up-date.
