For this particular experiment, we will be focusing on the growth and development of Flemish Giants. To see this entire process from beginning to end, please follow the posts with this (above) title, which will be numbered.
WEEK 5: The change in feed, so far, seems to have been the right move. The rabbits are all still eating much better than they were -with all supplements and treats having been removed, so that we can get a more accurate sense of how much and how well they are eating the Rowe's feed. (Tho time will tell...)
On average, every Flemish has gained aproximately 1# of weight (from the time of this experiment having been started), and when comparing the ones that are in the much larger outside pens to the 4 flemish (littermates of the ones outside), the ones outside have definitely acquired absolutely amazing flesh condition. They are very muscular, and toned-up. The 4 Flemish that have remained in the cages inside the shed (regular sized pens) have good flesh condition - but nothing like that of the ones in the outside pens. Considering that ALL have been fed the exact same amount and kind of feed, the only contributing factor to the increased flesh condition is the added exercise they are getting from being in the much larger, outside pens.
During the next week, we will continue monitoring flesh condition vs weight, as we re-add supplements and hay.
