For this particular experiment, we will be focusing on the growth and development of Flemish Giants. To see this entire process from beginning to end, please follow the posts with this (above) title, which will be numbered.
WEEK 14: Our comparison with the flemish litters has taken off. This is where we expect to see full difference in relation to the kits born and kept until weaning, at 9wks, in a divided or half-sized condo verses those born and kept in a full sized condo.
Litter 1 - consisting of two kits, were born and raised in a full sized condo. These babies, a buck and a doe, have remarkably notable more length than what the ones in litter 2 have. They also are leaner in appearance, with well developed muscle tone, and a more define topline. Their weights have remained consistent with the "idealistic size chart" for Flemish Giants for each week of their growth. We will be offering one kit back to the original breeder of the dam and sire of this litter. And we will be keeping the other kit (or both if the other person decides to pass).
Litter 2 - consisting of 5 kits, were born and raised in a divided / half sized condo. These babies are shorter in body, with more depth throughout their bodies. Their weights have remained consistent or have gone above the "idealistic chart". **note: unfortunately - we have discovered a coloration problem with this litter. We have traced the problem back to, what we believe at this time, the Sire's lineage. Apparently some NUT decided it was a good thing to breed colors together that should not be bred together. The result of that is this entire litter is now strictly PET quality. Every kit has or will be sold off as a pet. So - there will be no further comparisons done on this litter. And, the Sire is being sold as well - to prevent problems in future litters becoming "a hot mess mix" of colors. (This litter SHOULD had only produced black and blue kits. Instead, we have Black, Blue-Steel, and Black-Steel kits!)
****SUCH A WASTE OF SOME VERY, VERY NICELY TYPED FLEMISH GIANTS!!!****
LET THIS BE A LESSON: DO ****NOT**** EVER MISMATCH COLOR BREEDINGS ON FG!!!
