For this particular experiment, we will be focusing on the growth and development of Flemish Giants. To see this entire process from beginning to end, please follow the posts with this (above) title, which will be numbered.
WEEK 14: This week we are doing some major construction on the Condo's. The reason for this is the addition of 9 new Giant wabbits, which are coming from "out East." To make room, we are splitting all currently used 9 Condo's each into 3-section pens. This still allows room for the wabbits to move around, more so than what most "typical" Flemish-sized pens are, but significantly less than half or full sized condo's. From our previous experiment results, we believe this is also going to be optimal for maintaining the desired weight on all senior-aged wabbits, while not removing the added benefit of firmer flesh condition and muscle development due to having more room to for them to move around, verses being so tightly "boxed in".
In regards to our previously mentioned Junior Flemish (that were born here), their weights have continued to increase, as have their body length. On average, they are gaining aproximately 4 - 8 ounces per week. We will continue to closely monitor their growth, as they age.
Meanwhile... back to work I go. We have a total of 13 sections of pens to "build" in order to have enough pens open for the new rabbits, which will arrive on the 4th of July! This will leave us with a grand total of 5 open / empty pens, in which we can convert into condo's in the near future, except for one, which will be used as a "Storage Area" to hold all of our carriers, totes of feed, and other minimally used items.
Check back in next week to see how our new fur-children like their new homes. :-)
